Kasbah is inspired by the party scene of the 60s and 70s in Marrakesh, by YSL, Mick Jagger, and Veruschka, by all the colors and creativity. Filled with a pleasantly mild sweetness of white honey, lime, and sweet orange, the fragrance reveals its openness. The openness that makes Marrakesh, its vibrant markets, and the dynamic hustle and bustle both a refuge and a wild celebration. In the midst of these colorful markets, the senses are transported among clothing, colors, music, and drugs by a balsamic-sweet scent. The composition of earthy-woody and floral-fresh notes catapults the spirit into the heart of Marrakesh. In the base notes, the precious impressions collide with the foundation of the fragrance, a symbiosis of the woody-dusty origin of the city and the sweet-vanilla scent of the colorful surroundings. The result – woody and warm-hearted, with soft oriental spices.

Top notes: Sweet orange, lime, white honey Heart notes: Geranium, amber, patchouli Base notes: Vanilla, tonka bean, guaiac wood, leather, sandalwood

Hinter dem Duft

Johan Bergelin: “Stories of how Talitha and Paul Getty, Paul Bowles, Mick Jagger, Veruschka, and Yves Saint Laurent all resided in Marrakesh have always inspired me. I ́m intrigued by how they were enticed by the kingdom ́s energy and dynamic and used it for influences and escapes: clothes, colors, music, interior, and drugs. So, the fragrance of Kasbah is a capture of this era.”

Kasbah Fragrance Journey - My Cultural Road Trip

I meet with the taxi driver Said at the port of Tangier. He is my designated driver for the next couple of days. I am on a cultural road trip, exploring the kingdom. Ahead of every big crossing, I toss the dirham coin. That ́s how we decide whether to make a right turn or take a left. The Atlas mountains rise far in the distance. As I enter the Kasbah I can sense the logs still glowing from last night. The gigantic rustic leather-covered doors in combination with the clay walls create an ambiance from the past. An oil burner leaves a pleasant scent of woody notes. A woman in a long white linen kaftan passes by, leaving subtle notes of white honey, vanilla, and amber. I leave the house and enter the courtyard which is filled with lime and orange trees. The alley of old, quirky olive trees leads to the herb garden with wonderful scents of spices. The morning sun is beaming. My bare feet against the smooth black-and-white patterned tiles, I close my eyes and breathe in. My driver Said is sitting on the terrace, holding a hand-rolled cigarette in one hand and a sebsi full of smoldering kif in the other. Hashish fills the air with a sweet, soft aroma together with a fusion of Berber, African, and Arabic music.

19-69 Nineteen Sixtynine

The perfume cult brand 19-69 was founded by Swedish artist and product developer Johan Bergelin.  A twenty-four-month creative process with artisans in Scandinavia, France, and Italy led to the launch of 5 perfumes in 2017. Each fragrance is inspired by a different era, culture, or backdrop from Africa, Europe, the USA, and Asia. Art, music, trends, and cultures have shaped the fragrances in terms of content, name, and packaging. All fragrances are suitable for any gender and allow individuals to discover beauty across borders. Johan Bergelin: "The name of the brand 19-69 is a very strong statement. The year 1969 represents an era of freedom, tolerance, and counterculture. It is also the year I was born and my way of wearing my heart on my sleeve and saying: This is real. This is who I am."
