The indulgent, moisture-rich formula is powered by shea butter and botanical oils including jojoba, grape seed and plant-derived squalane. Black pepper and the powerful-acting terpene beta caryophyllene target inflammation and can help calm irritation. The clean, citrusy scent has a subtle undercurrent of jasmine and invigorates the senses.

Extracted from peppercorns, black pepper oil has the same warm, spicy aroma. It has anti-inflammatory properties and is applied topically to relieve pain. It is also rich in antioxidants that protect the skin from environmental damage. Shea butter is a fat extracted from the shea tree, which is native to West Africa. Considered a skin superfood rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, it is known for its ability to nourish and soften even the driest and most irritated skin. Shea butter has been used both cosmetically and medicinally (as a healing and soothing topping) for centuries. Beta-caryophyllene (BCP) is a terpene commonly found in spices and herbs such as black pepper and hemp. Its primary benefit is that it triggers a response from the CB2 receptor (cannabinoid receptor) in the body, which is involved in pain and other inflammatory pathways. In addition to its mechanism of action on the endocannabinoid system (ECS), it has been shown to have a wide range of benefits on other chemical pathways in the body. In addition to promoting a healthy inflammatory response, beta-caryophyllene has also been shown to have analgesic properties. This means that it can directly relieve discomfort by blocking certain pain receptors in the body. Due to its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, beta-caryophyllene can be used for various skin problems. Not only can it help with problems like acne and skin inflammation, but it can also be used for cuts, wounds, and general physical pain.

Nature of Things

Derived from nature, and backed by science. This is the philosophy of modern wellness house Natureofthings. Founded in 2019 by JP Collett and Jamie Leilani Pelayo in Newport Beach California, their mission, rooted in the enduring wisdom of nature, is to create harmony and synchronicity between mind, body and the natural world. With formulas being equal parts curative and preventative, their approach is based in the endeavor of holistic wellbeing. Not only are the origins of the ingredients important to them, but they also hold themselves and their partners to the highest possible standard in every regard of production, and create each product without any demographic in mind. The origin of their name takes inspiration from a didactic poem "De Rerum Natura," (translating to "Nature of Things") written around 50 B.C. by Roman poet Lucretius, in which he determines that eliminating pain and fear is what allowed for people to truly live an enjoyable life. And so that’s what Natureofthings sought out to do with their line by incorporating naturally derived, safe ingredients proven to help ease stress, anxiety, pain and inflammation while calming the mind and beautifying the skin. They believe it is right to feel good, but know that fast answers and quick fixes won’t get you there. Taking care of oneself is a daily practice. It means tuning in to the rhythms of our own bodies as well as those of the world around us. It means being present in the moment to lay a more healthful foundation for the future. Of course, Natureofthings does not take credit for these ideas. They are practically as old as time. Yet they are powerful and true.
