A perfume oil is a highly concentrated fragrance blend based on oils, in contrast to alcohol-based perfumes. It is characterized by its long-lasting effect and its gentle application on the skin.

What are the advantages or differences between a perfume oil and a regular perfume?
Due to the higher concentration of fragrance oils in perfume oils, they tend to be more intense, have a longer lasting fragrance and evaporate more slowly. This is partly due to the weight of the molecules - the higher concentration is heavier and with the addition of wax, the fragrance molecules linger longer on the skin. This also means that a perfume oil usually has low sillage (to find out more about sillage, check out this page), which is primarily perceived by the wearer. As they also tend to contain very few ingredients and no alcohol, they are less likely to irritate the skin.

How and where do you apply perfume oils?
Perfume oils, like most other perfumes, are best applied to any pulse points, as body heat helps to develop and diffuse the scent. They are usually available as a roll-on or with a small opening for dabbing directly onto the skin. A few dabs should be enough as perfume oils are very concentrated. As they do not diffuse as well as perfume sprays, perfume oils are usually applied to the upper part of the body, particularly the neck and collarbone, so that the wearer is aware of the scent.
