Chinese Tabacco is the interplay of opposites. East meets West, old meets new. Inspired by legendary films like Apocalypse Now and Indochine. Surrounded by a sweet-spicy freshness detached from life. In the heart of the fragrance, the refreshing pungency of ginger is unleashed, completed by a discreetly citric coriander scent. The base notes reflect a sense of security in the midst of chaos. A dreamy warmth of incense, cedar wood and vetiver meets the playful sweetness of vanilla. Perfection due to different compositions. A harmony because of contrasts.

Top notes:Bergamot, tobacco, paprika, lemon
Heart notes:Ginger, coriander
Basic notes:
Frankincense, cedarwood, vanilla, tar, oud, vetiver

Behind the Fragrance

Johan Bergelin: “The timeless masterpiece “Apocalypse now” by Francis Ford Coppola takes place in Vietnam in 1969. Major influences for the scent was the powerful scene featuring Aurore Clement and Martin Sheen smoking opium and the classic line “I love the smell of napalm in the morning”. The title of the movie was actually inspired by a button badge popular with hippies in the 1960s saying “Nirvana now”.

Chinese Tobacco Fragrance Journey - A Personal Dining Experience

It is long after midnight and the neon signs light up the dark sky in Terengganu, Malaysia. I am close to the chaos of the city, but it is quiet here in the park. I am surrounded by old gigantic trees, enormous vegetation and tree crowns. I open the doors of the wooden colonial building and enter the traditional Chinese restaurant. The air is filled with wonderful aromas and spices from the kitchen area. A man is sleeping in his chair while resting his head on the table. A group of men is playing cards while smoking under the fluorescent light. Women engage in loud conversations while chopping fresh spices and a small child sleeps in a basket at the end of the room. A TV screen presents the latest music videos from London. The kitchen's gas burners fill the air with a burnt scent. East meets west.

19-69 Nineteen Sixtynine

Perfume cult brand 19-69 was founded by the Swedish artist and product developer Johan Bergelin. A twenty-four months long creative process with artisans in Scandinavia, France and Italy lead to the launch of 5 perfumes in 2017. Each scent is composed inspired by a different era, culture or setting from Africa, Europe, the States and Asia. Art, music, trends and cultures have all left their marks on the fragrances both in terms of content, name and packaging. All fragrances are suitable for any gender and allow the individual to explore beauty across the borders.
Johan Bergelin: “The name of the brand 19-69 is a very powerful statement. The year of 1969 represents an era of freedom, tolerance and counterculture. It is also the year I was born and my way of putting my heart on the sleeve and say - This is real. This is who I am.”
