The scent of fresh, aquatic cologne, paprika specialties, and nutmeg-spiced linden blossom pear-tinis wafts through the bistro. This fresh, green, and citrusy fragrance is gentle, subtle, and combines citrus fruits, flavored water, and spices in full harmony. Lightly sweet yellow linden blossom mingles with peppery coriander and sweet-fresh pear in the crisp and invigorating top note, revealing juicy-sparkling mandarin with fresh, slightly spicy green pepper and fruity pea blossom. These green-juicy facets unfold with spicy-sweet nutmeg, aromatic basil, and naturally woody, earthy-leathery oak moss that grounds the scent and gives it depth. You’re literally in “the place to be” in the frenzy of service (8:30 on a Friday night). It’s electric: yelling orders, laughter, often terrible music your lame boss makes you listen to on repeat, crazy line cooks, drinking, first dates, possibilities, old friends. The world outside is cut off by the bistro’s walls. Inside, we escape or go inwards to experience the scene, the aroma, the food. D.S. & Durga is a Brooklyn-based brand whose fragrances tell stories that transport you to distant places. Each fragrance is a fragment of half-remembered myths of pioneers, boundary crossers, and cowboys, imaginary landscapes, salons, and workbenches that invite exploration. According to the founders, the art of a perfume lies not only in quality but also in the handling of the individual components. D.S. stands for David Seth Moltz, who taught himself how to make perfume. He lives his passion of transforming musical and literary spaces into fragrances. This also means that each individual fragrance is conceived and constructed in-house by D.S. & Durga, that is, without intermediaries or interpretation by external perfumers. Kavi (aka Durga) designs everything around the fragrances. By thinking in angles, light, shadow, and texture, she creates clarity in form and function. Through this constellation, everything the couple loves about music, art, nature, and design is elaborately told in aromatic form. All fragrances are invisible soundtracks that can be worn on the body throughout the day. The more you know the stories and events, the deeper you dive into the world of the bottle. The story, unexpected and novel combinations are the core of the aromatic vision.
