A unique fragrance composition that tells the story of a fire in the Curling Bros barbershop in Westlake, New York in 1891. All the shaving tonics with the classic aromas burned, but it was found that a charred bottle was still half full. Its contents smell as attractively fresh of beguiling mint, tangy lime, soft vanilla and delicate lavender as ever. On the outside, however, the bottle has long since charred and exudes an intense, smoky, oily scent. These two contrasting fragrance arrangements of fresh and smoky complement each other in an unprecedented way that no one can help but be amazed.

Top notes:Mint, lime, hemlock
Heart notes:
Lavender Absolute, Turkish Rose
Basic notes:
Burnt oil, vanilla, hay

Behind the Fragrance

The other original mainstay of DSD along with Cowboy Grass. A truly old fashioned dandified visit to ye old barbershop through classic aromatic associations – lavender, pine, mint, roses, vanilla – with a unique modern twist: devastating smoke. Burning Barbershop is a fougere – a classic genre of usually men's fragrances that use hay and vanillic notes with herbal lavender and the bitter green base of oakmoss. It is instantly recognizable on grandpas everywhere. This is the scent of a fougere that's been through fire. I imagine the bottle was full, cooking in the extreme heat of the blaze until the glass was black and cracked. After the embers had cooled, it was dug out underneath the rubble. Inside, stuck to the glass was the cooked resin of all that was fresh and inviting from the cologne. So you have the brightness of limes, cleanliness of lavender, joy of roses, zing of mint, and the sweetness of vanilla all cooked down into a rectified solid mass.

D.S. & Durga

D.S. & Durga is a Brooklyn-based brand whose fragrances tell stories that transport you to faraway places. Each fragrance is a fragment of half-remembered myths of pioneers, frontierswomen and cowboys, imaginary landscapes, saloons and workbenches that invite discovery. According to the founders, the art of a perfume lies not only in the quality but also in the handling of the individual components. D.S. stands for David Seth Moltz, who taught himself how to make perfume. He lives his passion for transforming musical and literary spaces into fragrances. This also means that every single fragrance is conceived and constructed in-house by D.S. & Durga themselves, i.e. without intermediaries or interpretation by external perfumers. Kavi (aka Durga) designs everything around the fragrances. By thinking in terms of angles, light, shadow and texture, she creates clarity in form and function. Through this constellation, everything the couple loves about music, art, nature and design is told in detail aromatically. All the fragrances are invisible soundtracks that you can wear on your body throughout the day. The more you know about the stories and events, the deeper you dive into the world inside the bottle. The story, unexpected and novel combinations are the core of the aromatic vision.
