At the beginning of the 20th century, floods and malaria hit Puglia. Vincenzo Parisi's family sent their young son away from home to find opportunities that were not available in the poor rural provinces of southern Italy at the time. Unlike many who tried their luck in America, his journey took him to Genoa, where he took up work as a cobbler. During this time he made his first pair of leather shoes, the only one he owned. They lasted until his last days. As he repaired and cared for them, the shoes changed, and in the end they bore nothing in common with the shoes he first put on. The soul of these leather shoes, however, remained intact.
Cuoium draws its inspiration from Vincenzo's only pair of handmade leather shoes and forges a path into the future. It is a perfume that shows his love for leather and respect for ancestral traditions. It embodies the vision of a modern world while maintaining a connection to tradition. It is about appreciating origins and allowing mystery a place in one's life.
This perfume is a tribute to the courage and the will to carry on. It represents an attitude that seeks to repair rather than replace and to nurture the legacy.
Un cuore di cuoio – A heart made of leather
PACKAGING THAT LEADS TO NEW DISCOVERIESAll ORTO PARISI fragrances are hidden in a box that unfolds in individual facets, with an opening in the middle that suggests an infinity. The Cuoium fragrance floats in a glass bottle with an oxidized metal cap with an original inlay of vegetable-tanned leather. The label made of natural white paper has the feel of 'Savile Row Tweed' and has an extremely fine herringbone structure. This perfume is the first in the Orto Parisi line to be offered with a reusable, removable leather case.
KEY ASPECTS OF ORTO PARISI
PLEASANT versus STRONG SMELLS ATTRACTION versus REJECTION
Two notes are included in all fragrances: 'PISSE DE CHEVAL' and 'BOYA BUTTER'. Boya butter is the butter from precious agarwood that forms in the heartwood of trees of the genus Aquilaria when they are infected with a special form of mold. The heartwood is odorless, thin and light before infection. After infection, it turns dark and produces an extremely aromatic resin called agar, also known as 'oud'. First-grade agarwood is one of the most expensive natural raw materials in the world. The smell of agarwood is complex and intoxicating, and there are hardly any other substances that come close to it. Behind the so-called 'pisse de cheval' lies the organic component p-cresol, which is produced by bacterial fermentation of human protein and is excreted in the feces and urine. It is also a component of tobacco smoke and human sweat, which attracts female mosquitoes. In the Orto Parisi collection, p-Cresol plays a role in the creation of repulsive and attractive notes. It is an essential component in the odor of pigs and is produced by male elephants during the mating season. It is one of the rare components that attracts Euglossini - or orchid bees - and has been used extensively in this context to capture and study the species. A repulsive lure that brings to life the hidden scent of the soul. These two basic components, crafted with the utmost subtlety, represent the contradiction between attraction and repulsion in a balanced combination with other raw materials. They invite those who smell the scents on an infinite journey to discover life through the sense of smell.
